The sacking of Mauricio Pochettino by Tottenham attracted great media attention when Jose Mourinho was almost immediately announced as his replacement. Media and fans seemed to mostly agree that Pochettino had to go on the basis of this season’s results, with Tottenham placed 14th in the Premier League. The big spend on arguably the best football stadium in the UK had fans questioning whether this was to the detriment of the Club's talent acquisition strategy.
